The Canada Games Host Society and Extreme Group “bring it” to Halifax

When the Canada Games Host Society asked agencies what they would bring to the 2011 Halifax Winter Games, Extreme Group brought the right stuff and scored the winning goal.

The Canada Games Host Society has selected Extreme Group to collaborate with the three-year branding, marketing and promotion of the 2011 Winter Games. Extreme will help launch the Games, recruit volunteers and sponsors, build community support, and work with the Host Society to assemble a first-class Games experience with a lasting legacy for the Halifax Regional Municipality and the province of Nova Scotia.

This will be the 21st edition of the Winter Games and will feature 20 different sports and numerous cultural events and festivals. It will take place from February 11 to 27, 2011. During the games over 2,700 athletes, 400 members of the media, 700 VIPs, 500 officials and thousands of visitors will head east for the two-week event.

“The Canada Games are an integral part in the development of Canada’s athletes. Equally important is the legacy the games leave on the host city,” said Chris Morrissey, CEO of the Canada Games Host Society. “We engaged an agency that believes in us and in the legacy the Games creates. Extreme’s passion for Halifax and for the Canada Games was evident from the beginning.”

The Games bring many tangible and intangible benefits to the host community. It is a significant endeavour that requires thousands of volunteers and much planning and preparation.

“When we heard about this opportunity we were really excited to have the chance to work on such an important project,” said Andrew Doyle, president of Extreme Group. “We understand the significance of the Games and we’re committed to ensuring the thrill and ownership of this event extends to all Nova Scotians, and hopefully the rest of Canada.”
